NOTE OF COT WORKING GROUP ON ORGANOPHOSPHATES MEETING ON 11th June 1999

The 11 th meeting of the COT Working Group on Organophosphates took place on the 11 th June 1999.

Detailed consideration was given to Dippers Flu. It was clear that although the term was used in common parlance amongst sheep farmers there was no clear definition in the scientific/medical literature nor within government departments/agencies. The underlying mechanism was not known and alternative hypothesis that did not involve exposure to OPs have been proposed. It was agreed that this issue should be included in the Report of the Group.

Much of the discussion at the meeting focussed on further drafting of the report of the Working Group, particularly the discussion of the various end-points measured in the epidemiology studies. It was recognised that this will need to be reconsidered in the light of the results of the IOM study. Further consideration was given to drafting answers to the list of questions posed to the Group.

The next meeting of the COT Working Group will take place on 20 th July 1999 when the results of the IOM study will be considered.

More details of the work of the Group can be found on the COT homepage.
